Port Authority and Security

Port Authority for the ports operated by NPorts is Dept. 45 of Niedersachsen's Ministry for Economics, Labour and Transport. Its tasks include:

  • defence against hazards in port and shipping-related matters
  • monitoring the transportation of hazardous goods in ports
  • the security of ports and harbour facilities (Port Security)
  • granting exceptions during ship disposal operations
  • Seamen's Councils (Merchant Marine Authorities).

In this context, NPorts carries out supportive administrative assistance. In the individual ports the respective port captains are responsible; to some extent, they are even responsible for additional port areas, not operated by NPorts.
