All Beginnings Are Easy

Start your career with an apprenticeship in our ports. With our more than 30 years of experience, we can offer you a well-founded vocational training. In addition, you can expect pay according to union negotiated tariff and experience our lively Apprentice Day. And one thing is certain: We don't have assembly line work! No matter where your field of deployment is, in maintenance, in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, in construction or in the office, in any of those fields you can contribute with your full potential.

Showcase your talent

During your apprenticeship, you get the opportunity to work and participate in various projects and departments. For several years now, our trainees have been successfully participating in the IHK (Chamber of Commerce and Industry) qualification program Energy Scouts. In doings so, you will learn to develop processes that reduce energy consumption by using resources more efficiently. Therefore, as an NPorts Apprentice, you can actively contribute to climate protection.

Kauffrau/Kaufmann für Büromanagement (Commercial Administrator for Office Management (f/m/d))

 

 

Duration of Apprenticeship: 3 years

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:The management's business trip has yet to be booked, the department management meeting has to be prepared, and the customers’ emails must be answered. As an all-rounder in the office, this is no problem for you: You organize office technical processes, work and organizational resources, as well as workplaces, and you know the company's organization and its functional relationships inside and out. During your training, you transfer through many departments, such as accounting, cost accounting, purchasing, human resources, secretarial services, port office or marketing/communication, to get a good overall view and specialize in one area of choice.

What degree do you need?
A good degree from a general education school

What you should bring to the table:
You enjoy working with a PC and feel comfortable in the office. You are interested in commercial and business topics, you possess basic IT skills and on top of that, you have a good knowledge of mathematics and German. If that applies to you, then this apprenticeship is a great fit for you.

Future Opportunities After Your Education:
With the wide range of departments you transfer through, you can work in many corporate areas after your apprenticeship. For instance: in the HR department or in public relations. This will open many doors for you. If you are not yet fed up with learning, you may also be able study at an undergraduate or graduate school afterwards.

Duration Of Apprenticeship: 3 ½ years, 2 ½ years (Emden and Norden)

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:

You install, maintain, and repair operating, production, and process equipment. This includes, for example, our cranes and locks with modern control equipment or modern building system and automation technologies. Each apprenticeship year has a different focus on learning new things. For example, you can find out what the difference between AC or DC currents is. You self-reliantly set up control cabinets or draw circuit diagrams. You will program control devices.   

What degree do you need?
A good degree from a general education school. It would be great if you enjoy maths and physics. If you want to start your training in Norden, you should have a degree from a technical vocational school.

What you should bring to the table:
Motivation, technical understanding, efficient craftsmanship, interest in electrical circuits and exciting contexts, as well as a steady hand

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
The possibilities of continuing education after the apprenticeship are manifold and range from electronics, mechatronics, electrical energy technology to electrical measuring, control and control technology. You can become a master craftsman or a technician, or you can train to become a certified technical specialist or a technical business administrator. A subsequent course at a technical university with a degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics is also conceivable.

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:
You have always enjoyed technology classes at your school and you love it when sparks fly? Then the profession of a specialist for mechanical metal engineering might be a perfect match for you. In this job, you will fabricate components (assemblies and subassemblies), both manually and by machine. You will also establish the connections, and plan and prepare the installation and de-installation processes. Maintenance and repair of operating equipment is part of your job description, as well. As is trouble shooting and fault repair on equipment, machines, and vehicles (motor vehicles and ships).

What degree do you need?
A good graduation certificate/diploma from a general education school.

What you should bring to the table:
Logical thinking and interest in technical topics. Plus, you are no stranger to craftsmanship and a precise and diligent method of working. If you can also bring a profound interest in technology to the table, this apprenticeship will be a very good fit for you.

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
After your apprenticeship you will have a plethora of opportunities. You can start an additional apprenticeship to become an Industrial Mechanic. After completing that, you may, for instance, undergo further education to become a technical business administrator or certified expert, a master craftsman, or technician. And nothing stands in your way, if you want to become self-employed.  

This profession is for you if you:

  • Possess a good technical understanding.
  • Like to move while you work.
  • Have a gift for craftsmanship.

As a real estate agent, you will get to know real estate, construction and tenancy law as well as tax law and the brokerage and property developer regulations. That sounds dry at first, but it really isn't. In this job you have a lot to do with other people, whether on the phone or in person. You will also gain broad commercial knowledge, learn to observe market situations and recognize business relationships.

Do you enjoy working on the PC, but just as much desire to work with people? Are you interested in commercial and real estate connections? Teamwork is just as important to you as initiative and independence? Then this job is for you.

What degree do you need?
A good degree from a general education school. If you want to start your training in Norden, you should have a degree from a technical vocational school.

What you should bring to the table:
Motivation, technical understanding and good craftsmanship. You are interested in metal and enjoy working independently? Great, then this is the right job for you.

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
More knowledge is always good. Through courses or seminars, you can not only further your education, but also specialize for a specific area. You can become a master craftsman, a certified technician, or, for instance, a technical certified expert. Want more? Then - under certain conditions - you may be able to obtain a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, for example.

You will be trained in various nautical work, such as preservation and rope work. You will also lend your support  during docking/undocking, mooring/unmooring of ships, learn how to operate fire extinction devices and life-saving appliances, and how to maintain machines and equipment. You will also take on responsibility when you are on engine room or command bridge watch or when you supervise loading procedures.

It is an advantage in this profession to be fond of Mathematics and English. You also need to be at least 16 years of age and fit for navigation (exam by a public health officer required). If you are interested in technical topics and contexts and you have a knack for craftsmanship and an elevated sense of responsibility, are a great team player, and can work independently, then this apprentice ship would be a great fit for you.

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
It is an advantage in this profession to be fond of Mathematics and English. You also need to be at least 16 years of age and fit for navigation (exam by a public health officer required). Wasserbauer/in (~Hydraulic Engineer m/f)

 

Duration of Apprenticeship: 3 years

What awaits you in your apprenticeship:
As a hydraulic engineer, you will build, inspect and maintain structures erected for island and coastal protection, but also bank revetments and maintenance thoroughfares (such as seawalls/dikes, breakwater structures, spur dikes), as well as buildings in and on water (for example the draining of sluice chambers). Furthermore, you will be responsible for maintaining and securing the nautical approach and fairway and conduct water depth surveys and hydraulic measurements. But there is more: You will implement measures for the protection from drift ice and against storm surges and flood water, fabricate building components, plus, you will learn to conduct and operate water crafts and other floating equipment.

What degree do you need?
A successful completion of secondary school/grammar school with great grades in mathematics and science subjects.

What you should bring to the table:
A solid interest in craftsmanship, plus you need to be in decent physical condition. As a hydraulic engineer, you will also need a swim certification (Freischwimmer certification or equivalent), plus you should be fond of working outdoors.

Future opportunities after your apprenticeship:
After your apprenticeship, there should be a plethora of opportunities for you. You can branch out in various directions, such as occupational safety, civil engineering, reinforced concrete construction, construction machine operation,  survey technology, building restoration, sewage, eco, and environmental protection. Afterwards, and in order further your career, you may follow it up with a university degree in Civil Engineering, International Land and Water Management, Land Use and Water Management, or Geoinformatics and Surveying. You could also attend a technical college for master craftsmen.

This profession is for you if you:

  • Love the fresh smell of seawater.
  • Like working in a fixed team.
  • Like working with (heavy) machinery.

This profession is not for you if you:

  • Easily get seasick.
  • >Are not ‘outdoorsy’.
  • Are not physically resilient.

If you choose an apprenticeship at NPorts, you can look forward to many things. For example, that every day becomes varied and exciting. Your apprenticeship contains action-oriented training, which will give you the right tools to work self-reliantly and independently and start a great career after that apprenticeship. And even your salary is pretty decent. Even in the first year of your apprenticeship, you will earn more than 1,000.00 Euros a month before taxes and contributions. You will have 30 days of vacation each year and great working hours: On Fridays, for example, you may be able to “call it a day” at noon.

Apprentice Day

Shortly after the start of the apprenticeship, which will be very well prepared and organized for you at your location, all new trainees will meet at the headquarters in Oldenburg and get to know each other and the company.
