Motivation

The potential for digital innovation in ports is enormous. In order to improve safety, efficiency and sustainability in ports, innovative technologies must be developed and tested in a real and controlled environment. LiDAR technology in particular enables a wide range of innovative applications through precise detection of objects in real time.

Project Goals

As part of the SIDAS project, a digital test field with high-resolution sensor technology is being set up. The aim is to promote digital innovation in the port. The digital test field is intended to enable the following applications:

  • Support for port manoeuvres: The aim is to identify and avoid critical situations during port manoeuvres at an early stage. This will enable assistance on board via web or port apps.
  • Monitoring and documentation of accidents: The sensor technology installed in the test field records all relevant data, merges it, informs relevant stakeholders and creates documentation of accident sequences. This also enables (preliminary) warnings to be issued to the port office in the event of conspicuous manoeuvres.
  • Advanced use cases: In addition, further use cases can be tested that arise from the sensor technology, data migration and visualisation. These include, for example, lighting control.

The project builds on findings from the SmartKai research project and contributes to making port infrastructure fit for the future.
